W dniach 20-21 maja 2011 r. w Center for Advanced Studies na Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München odbędzie się konferencja poświęcona rekonstruowaniu oryginalnego tekstu utworów Katullusa pt. What Catullus wrote. An international conference on the poems of C. Valerius Catullus.
Although the poems of C. Valerius Catullus are one of the great achievements of Roman literature, their survival has been precarious: all existing copies of the text derive from one single surviving manuscript that was marred by hundreds of mistakes. The conference will be devoted to the effort of undoing this damage and reconstructing the words of the poet. The speakers include distinguished experts in the field as well as young Catullan scholars from a variety of academic backgrounds. They will discuss how Catullus’ poems survived,
what attempts have been made to reconstruct them in the past, and what we can do to reconstruct them today.
